It all started when…
the need for a specialized group of responders arose. Prior to what we know today as the Ambulance Services or Emergency Medical Services (EMS), funeral homes were performing emergency transport. Some funeral homes staffed drivers and someone to provide first aid, with usually nothing more than a portable oxygen cylinder and a stretcher.
As EMS improved, there arose a need for a specialized group of responders to free victims from wreckage and to retrieve persons from rural areas then deliver them to the EMS so the victims can be transported to a hospital. Thus the Rescue Squad was born.
The Coffee County Rescue Squad (CCRS) was formed in 1963 with little more than a vision to provide rescue services to the citizens of Coffee County (and our contiguous counties, when requested). CCRS was and is completely made up of volunteers.
